Description
The Point Aux Barques Lighthouse stands overlooking Lake Huron at the tip of Michigan's thumb region. The stately old structure is surrounded by tall trees that have shed their leaves. The roof of the tower is red, as is the oil house located just a short distance from the keeper's residence. This offers a splash of color to the quiet scene. This is one of the first few lighthouses I visited in late 1999. I had driven about three hours to get here. When I arrived, I found the entrance closed off at the road. I took a chance and just parked by the side of the road and walked in! The original image was captured on slide film and scanned in as a digital copy.
