This was my first visit to Point Aux Barques Lighthouse, taking nearly three hours to get there. When I arrived, I found the entrance to the grounds was closed. So, I parked my car by the side of the road and walked on to the grounds. I had a new camera and a newer 50mm lens I was eager to try out, so I wasn't going to give up and go home! Although I was the only person there, I saw signs that someone had walked their dog through the grounds. It was eerily quiet, with just the sounds of crunching snow and the light lapping of waves of Lake Huron to break the silence. The scene was both austere and haunting.
Hello, and welcome to my site! I first became passionate about photography in the late 1990s, when I picked up my first SLR film camera. This was a starter kit from Vivitar. I basically used it to take nature photos, mostly of wildflowers. A couple years later, I upgraded to a Nikon film SLR, an N90S. To try it out, I went to my first lighthouse in Saint Joseph, Michigan. The pier was iced over, but I edged my way all the way to the end. I was just wearing sneakers, which was insane. Today, I wear boots and crampons when venturing out on the ice. Regardless, I was instantly hooked and kept photographing lighthouses up the west coast of Michigan.
